American Standard Furnace & A/C

QUESTION:

I have received an estimate to replace my almost 40 year old Lennox furnace with an American Standard High Efficiency Furnace. I figured while I'm doing the furnace I might as well have the coil put-in for A/C after. The question I have is about American Standard. Are they a good company? I have nore do anybody I know have any experience with them. How do there furnaces & A/C units rate in comparision to other name brands (ie: Trane, Lennox, Carrier, Amana, Rheem, etc) ? Also, I know this might be hard to give a good answer on-line, but I'm wondering if the estimate I got was competative. For $3500, I received all installed :
* An American Standard 92.5 % Effficiency Furnace
* The Air Conditioining Coil that mounts on top of the furnace
* A Honywell Media Filter
* Chimney Liner
* An Aprilaire Humdifier ( and pump to pump to my washtub)
* New programmable thermostat
* Approx. 150 ft of new duct work in the basement
(The present 4 inch piping would be increased to 6 inch) This is something I cannot put no value on [although I was told if I did not go through with this, it would save me about $600.])
The last pt is confusing. I don't know if it's needed & if it is, is $600 a good deal. The A/C and associated work would be done in the spring. That would includ a 10 SEER A/C unit and everything needed to install it. I was qouted between $1300 & $1500 for that.

ANSWER:

They are excellent furnaces. We've sold them since 1992. Make sure you are getting the AUX instead of the AUC, better ignition system, and make sure they are pulling in outside air with a 2nd PVC pipe. Suggest the new F35 instead of the F25, less restrictive That's a good question. Ductwork changes are labor intenstive & expensive. Without seeing, hard to say if needed or a good deal. 4" round pipe doesn't move much air, going to 6" makes a drastic difference.
