Oil Furnace Motor

QUESTION:

I have a Beckett Oil fired furnace. Lately (just in time for the heating season) the resettable overheat switch has been popping on the motor. The reset for the fire does not trip - just the motor.
When I reset the motor switch - sometimes it pops out again in 15 seconds and sometimes it lasts a few days.
Anybody shed some light as to what I should be looking for to correct this?

ANSWER:

Overloads keep good motors from drawing more amps than intended (overheating causes early failure). Dying motors sometimes draw more amps than intended. Overloads do fail, however, If your overload is a separate component, it can be replaced. Otherwise, it sounds like you need a new motor.
