Boiler Explosion in Ohio?

QUESTION:

Anyone seen any details of this? Any likely repercussions for UK steam operation?

ANSWER:

The steamer was in fact a steam boilered farm tractor, as such it is considered to be a piece of industrial machinery and the incident will not be investigated by the NTSB, and it is also not covered by the FRA's boiler regulations like a steam locomotive. Since it was not a stationary heating boiler or such covered by Ohio's boiler regulations it probably fell through the cracks of regulations with catastrophic results.
