Boiler interfering with TV.

QUESTION:

My old central heating boiler is interfering with Digital TV broadcasts via the aerial.
Is there a method of suppressing the spike I pick up every time the boiler switches on?
CT100 aerial cable has been recommended as a good cable to replace my standard co-ax aerial cable. Any other thoughts?

ANSWER:

Welcome to the wonderful new digital TV and Radio age where everything is supposed to be rosy in the dig-it-all garden....not..
Yep, CT100 and CT125 are good cables much better than the string that is sold as low loss. This is recommended however it isn't certain that this will cure the problem you have.
We used to have this quite bad but since our new boiler there hasn't been a problem. It is possible to add suppression devices around the thermostat but this is a bit of a specialist job to say the least, unless you're OK with such work.
We had an old boiler some years ago to witch I fitted Two thryistors with the gate terminals connected together by the original contacts and it was quiet after that, but it was a bit extreme.
On balance I would try the aerial cable first. Make sure though that you have the correct aerial for your area, and that it is as high as possible, and outside!..
