QUESTION:I want to do just a nozzle & oil filter change on my furnace - I've
done it before in the past on another furnace, and my housemate didn't
book us a service appt. in time this year. Aside from occasional delayed
ignition, it's running fine. It's a 140,000btu hot air unit, model
WOU112B-D4, according to the ID plate, with a 1gph 70 degree 'B' nozzle.
It's roughly 7 years old. * Does the burner come off by removing the 4 nuts on the large
plate it's mounted on, and disconnecting the control wiring? That's
how it appears to me. Or does the large backing plate stay on? * It tends to short cycle (5 minutes, roughly). Would a .85gph
nozzle be better? * What's the electrode gap? Does the old 'thickness of a quarter'
rule of thumb apply to this model? * Anything else I should know?
ANSWER: Why do you want to take the burner off? Unless you are replacing the endcone
or blast tube, you risk damaging the firbox or snapping off the mount bolts
by removing it. Trust me. You DON"T want to have to replace the firebox
The manufacturers designed the unit to use a specific nozzle. Are you sure
the pump pressure is correct?
From the sounds of it, you need to call someone in that knows what he's
doing. Yes, you can change a nozzle, but the nozzle assembly position,
draft, air band adjustment, electrode setting, pump pressure, etc. all can
cause the problems you are having if not set properly.
