QUESTION:Heres something that was passed along to me yesterday from the Carrier
supplier. Subject: Corp/Totaline stat problems I wish to report that more and more calls are being received with
regard to stats blanking out. If the stats are less than a year old
they'll be covered by warranty. There's a pseudo service bulletin
that basically admits that the thermostats have a low threshold for
"dirty power" and that stats manufactured after date code 0039 correct
or address this problem. (doesn't this tell you the problem in the
stat?) The bulletin gives no policy with regard to labor or
replacement parts credit for stats older than one year. some of the
totaline stats involved include those special ones that the
contractors name or logo was imprinted on. In those type of instances
I can only suggest that the circuit board from corrected stat be
inserted to the plastic cases of the old stat. The bulletin does not
specifically call out the totaline product but I am told that they are
made by the same vendor.
ANSWER: Are the Carrier stats used on a Carrier furnace or another product. The only
time I encountered "Blanking" of their digital stats was when the unit was
hooked up to another furnace (I think it was an ICP product, its been a
while). The furnace had insufficient R/A thus causing the unit to trip the
high limit after approx. 10 minutes of operation. The limit was wired
between the transformer and R-terminal of the furnace. So every time the
limit opened the stat would blank out due to no 24v.
