QUESTION:Has anyone ever heard of Ducane furnaces? I am replacing an old furnace
in a rental home I own and one of the contractors recommended Ducane
because its the only company still making horizontal units for crawl
spaces. 1. Is this true, and if so, is this important or are the "universal"
fit units just as good. 2. Does Ducane make a quality furnace, are there any other makes that
anyone would recommend?
ANSWER: Are you talking about oil? This is what Ducane specializes in and they
make
for most major brands. They do have a multi-position oil furnace that
will
go horizontal. If you are talking gas, almost EVERYONE makes their own
now
and no longer buy from Ducane. I'm not familiar with their gas furnaces
although
did hear of some problems with the horizontal 90% in the past - a few
years ago.
That's a bunch of hogwash! There IS a major difference between brands.
We can (but won't)
buy a Janitrol 90% for the price of a Trane 80%. Sure makes a world of
difference
in dealer price. Between the better brands, there is less difference but
some, like Carrier,
sell 4 different 80% furnaces, not counting the 2 stage and 2 stage
variable speed. So cost
and quality and features do vary between brands.
