What is the best type of filter for home use?
QUESTION:Hi, I posted a question a while back about how to go about selecting a new
Furnace/AC for my house and really appreciate the feedback I received. I
have one more question though about filters. One of my kids has asthma.
I've had quotes for three different types of air filtration: 1) Electronic filter (I hear they are noisy and cause Ozone, which can lead
to other problems, and are prone to breaking down often) 2) HEPA filter (change every 6-12 months) 3) UV Light I'm thinking my best option is the HEPA filter, but wanted to hear from some
experts on the matter.
ANSWER: I like the Air Bear, or Aprilaire filters. I do not like electrostatic
because NOBODY services them as well as they need to. A electrostatic filter
that needs service is like running no filter at all. I have always wondered about puting an Air Bear as a prefilter in front of
an electrostatic, in extreme alergy cases.
