Keeprite 2 stage High efficiency furnace price?
QUESTION:I live in small 2 story 1400 sqft house in Toronto Ontario. My
Coolman furnace blower died out and I am getting it replaced. I am
also replacing my 1.5 ton Lennox Central Air Condition as well, it is
working fine, but I think it is cheaper to replace both Furnace and AC
together. I got a quote for both Furnace and Central AC installed for: Keeprite 2 Stage High Efficiency 92% Furnace 75000 BTU for $2600
including GST (model IIS 90) Ameristar (American Standard) 1.5 ton 13 SEER with coil for $1900
include GST 5 Years Parts and Labour Included on both units. Also I can deffer payment for 1 year no cost. All funds are in Canadian dollars, as of August 2007 Please let me know if I am getting a good deal, or I am being ripped
off?
ANSWER: a 19 year old AC is at the end of its design life, and it
will get increasingly pricey to repair as it gets to the bitter end. If
a new furnace is going in it is the good time to do AC. Although
electricity is cheap in Canada, how long would you bet it will stay that
way? I would price high efficiency units, online pricing as a guide
tells me that a 16 seer unit is hundreds more, and while it may not pay
back at todays prices, it might at the prices 3 years from now.
