Furnace filter question

QUESTION:

After I pulled out the old 20 x 25 x 1 filter to my gas furnace and slipped the new one in, I noticed on the side of the filter an arrow above the words "air flow". In my haste to replace the filter, I'm not certain I put the filter in the right direction.
The slot for the filter is external to the furnace between the air intake vent and the furnace. Should the arrow point to the furnace or to the intake vent? I think I can build a case that supports both directions but I guess there is only one right way. Which is it?

ANSWER:

I think the air-flow arrow is there for those thrifty folks who remove the filter, vacuum it, and put it back.
( you dont want to put it in "backward" after doing that !! )
If you "use and toss" it shouldnt matter which way the arrow points.
