Gas Furnace Filter Location

QUESTION:

We have a new Trane gas furnance.
The filter location is in the house's air return duct, however the manual indicates there are filters inside where the duct for the outside fresh air is.
Any ideas on the pro/cons of where the filter should be. The installer says the unit should only have 1 filter, otherwise the air flow is too restricted. They think the return duct filter is the better place for the filter.
Thus far I have come up with the following Pros for having the filter in the house's air return duct.
1) Appears to be easier to change filter
2) Air is refiltered more times.
The Con I have come up with isir
1) Dirt/Pollen from outside fresh air duct (although minimal) goes through the ducts and furnance and into the house once, and then is filtered by the return filter.
2) Trane designed it to have filters inside the furnace.

ANSWER:

They do have a return filter grill. They said they do not install the filter inside the furnace becuase if they did, 2 filters would cut the air flow down too much, plus they are darn near impossible to access.
