QUESTION:My furnace uses filter material, which comes in a roll. I
just realized that the filter has a smooth and a "fuzzy
side".
Is there a right way to orient the filter material, that is
"fuzzy" side to the incoming air ?
ANSWER: You want the coarser side to catch larger dust particles first, and then the
finer side to catch the smaller particles. If the finer side goes first, it
stops the large ones as well as the small ones, but gets blocked up that
much faster while the coarser side doesn't get to do anything.
