Furnace Goodman Hvac Part
QUESTION:Goodman Gas Furnace (Residential unit) approx 5-7
yrs. old 100,000 BTU Electronic ignition. Problem:
Unit gets signal from therm. to heat. Gas valve opens up for 30 sec. or so. Ignitor doesn't spark. (but it's getting 110v at
terminal during the time the gas valve is open) Gas valve finally shuts off. Blower comes on - blowing cold air. I thought that it was an ignitor problem, but a
HVAC parts store person told me ignitors should be
getting in the thousands of volts and my ignitor *looked* good - no cracks, etc. He said my
problem was elsewhere. The documentation for my furnace doesn't tell me
how many volts I should be getting off of my
Honeywell control box to the ignitor. I didn't
think you could look at an ignitor and tell if it
was good or bad.
ANSWER: 5 to 7 years ago during that time Goodman / Janitrol was switching from
electronic ignition to hot surface igniter. you have to determine if it
is hot
surface or electronic type. 5 year old it is hot surface , 7 years old
it's a
electronic ignition type. if you could post the model number and serial number i can tell you
what
you have. now another way to give information is to give me the first
2 digits
of serial number and it will tell the year that it was made. i will take it that it is a electronic ignition type. you need to read the voltage at the terminal that has the thin orange
wire leaving ignitor
box and goes to the pilot assembley. . you will get extremely high
voltage to the pilot
assembley . my meter don't go that high for it will peg my volt meter
out on 600+ volts. when you say the gas valve opens , your really hearing the pilot gas
part of gas valve opening.
