Furnace Repair Birmingham
QUESTION:Does anyone have some personal experience with a chimney repair firm in
Seattle? I have asked for bids from three firms. One gave me a bid then
seemed to go out of business. Phone number was no good. One was way high
and included a bunch of stuff I don't want and don't think I need. One
made an appointment to come give a bid and didn't show up.
There seems to be a lot of them in the phone book. But how to choose. I
need about the top 9 courses of brick taken down and rebuilt. Need some
kind of flue extensions, I think, and a spark arrester on the fireplace
hole. The other hole in the chimney vents the oil furnace. Doesn't seem
like a big deal. Any ideas?
ANSWER: Chimney repair rip offs abound. The rip-off artists are characterized by
their sales pitch of doom if repairs are not made. This is not to minimumize
the potential for serious problems but most do not approach the level as
described by the salesman.
DO have the repairs made. But call a local mason specializing in chimneys. A
good source of established, qualified contractor is a local mason supply
dealer. They will be happy to give you the names of a few contractor.
