Furnace Repair Salt Lake City
QUESTION:We have been experiencing several days of severe winds here in Salt
Lake City, and I have been spending more time in the utility room than
I care to, re-lighting our furnace pilot. Not so bad in the middle of
the day, but getting up to a 48 degree house rather than a 67 degree
one is not my idea of a good time!
We had the evaporative cooler take off the roof when we installed
central air last summer, and I wonder if this has changed the pattern
of air flow over the roof, as this is a brand new problem for this
furnace.
Does anyone make some sort of baffle for the flue or a different kind
of chimney cap that would alleviate this problem? It's a 6 inch sheet
metal stack, so installation wouldn't be complicated. (As long as I
get up there before we get permanent-type snow.)
Any one ever experience this and find a solution?
ANSWER: Many furnaces have a damper that opens via the force of hot rising air through
the flue. When cold, outside air tries to go the opposite direction, the damper closes.
This damper may be stuck open.
