Furnace Repairs

QUESTION:

Trane XL90 installed March 1989 (with noisy impeller fan motor in frigid weather.)
Now, the thermostat will click to turn on the furnace but nothing happens. Could one or both of the two pressure switches be responsible? Could one or both of them be acting like a car thermostat that is stuck in the open position? Is there a way to bench test a pressure switch? How can you tell if one is bad?
Anyone know a really, really competent hvac repair outfit qualified on Trane in the Pittsburgh PA area?

ANSWER:

The problem you are describing could be caused by a number of things.
1. The noisy fan may have seized.
2. Look for a manual reset button. ( call for service if it cutout.)
3. Make sure the main blower door is on properly.
4. Furnace wall switch may be off.
5. Check furnace circuit breaker. Note: don't mess around with the pressure switches. (call for service) ANY competant hvac tech can troubleshoot your furnace. Call your local gas utility for a recommendation.
