QUESTION:We bought a condo that has a gas fueled forced air furnace that needed
servicing. The seller arranged for a local company to service the
furnace. I can tell that they changed the air filter, and taped up
some gaps in the return ducts. However, I can't seem to find a
service tag on the furnace. Is a service tag required? How can I be sure that they didn't just
change the filter & tape up some gaps in the ducts?
ANSWER: It's customary in these parts (and I'm assuming everywhere else)
for a company to put a sticker on the front panel of the unit
after they service it, but it's totally a marketing tool, telling
you to call them in the future when you need service. The only
thing remotely close to what you're looking for would be that
some of them just write the date on it with a Sharpie, nothing
close to any specific info on what they did. The info you're looking for would be on the receipt they left
when they did the service, and maybe the previous owner will
consider selling it to you.
