QUESTION:I've been quoted an installed price of $2000 for those old-technology
Lennoxes that are only 78% efficient (no better than required by law, and
I suspect they fudged to get there) and replace my old non-condensing
unit directly. For more efficient condensing units, with a new vent out the
side of the house, plus metal lining for the chimney, the estimate is about
is $2700 for a 90+ AFUE one-speed unit, and $3500 for a top-of-the-line
two-speed-heat multi-speed-fan Carrier Infinity. Is this in line with what
other people pay or am I being overcharged? I'd be interested in finding
out what other people have paid for what units, plus what extra
installation work if any. By the way the furnaces i was quoted on were 75
or 80 KBTU output.
ANSWER: I paid $2300 for a new high efficiency gas furnace back in January. I don't
remember its specifications, but it was of sufficient size to heat a 1900 sft
home. Your quotes seem reasonable based upon my limited experience. Get a
couple of estimates before you plunk any money down.
