QUESTION:I have a Goodman furnace that's about 14 years old. The model number
is hba100nd5r. I'm selling the house, and the buyer's inspector found
a crack in the heat exchanger. I've called a couple of HVAC
contractors and each of them have told me that the heat exchanger is
no longer available. One of them told me that the part was last
manufactured in 2000. Is there a source somewhere for discontinued furnace parts? The home
buyer will likely repalce the furnace anyway, but all I feel that I
owe her is the price of a replacement heat exchanger.
ANSWER: Well Chuck , You have a Goodman Furnace which the heat exchanger was made by
Consolidated company in it. When the Model # starts with HBA it tells you
that it was made only 2 years and the heat exchanger was made by
Consolidated company and they are / suppose to be belley up and don't make
the exchanger anymore. Goodman is still responciable for getting you a heat
exchanger for if you look at the warrenty papers it says you have a 20 year
warrenty on the exchanger , which leeds me to say get a lawyer and make them
give you a "new furnace" or produce a heat exchanger for it. Words of wisedom : In a court Room you will win , but before you get there.
They will just give you a furnace and your stuck with the lawyer fees ,
which could be close to the furnace cost. Damn if you do and damn if you
don't. If your the Pay back type person go for it , if not leave it alone and just
live a good simpler life and be happy.
