Home Furnace

QUESTION:

New oil tank for home furnace?
I had a new oil furnace installed in the crawl space under my mobile home. Now I need a new tank, which is now outdoors. A rep for Irving Oil recommended that I put it in the garage, which is under a new addition. The problem is that the tank would be about 8 feet lower than the furnace. How will the oil get to the furnace without a pump ? They say it will work without one. Anyone know for sure ?

ANSWER:

An oil pump in a oil furnace is used to pressurize the oil that exits the nozzle at the right spray and angle. It does pump oil ,but is not meant to PULL oil from 8ft. below it. Oil furnaces are designed to be GRAVITY fed. What oil rep worth his salt doesn't know that!! Pick an area that allows a level or higher flow of oil for oil furnace... And consider this.. When its winter and the temp is 0 degree and the oil is as thick as Karol syrup, do you think that oil rep is going to come out .
