QUESTION:I've Had my Celeron system up and running for a month now with no problems.
I opened the case tonight to add a fan and adjust some jumper settings. I
noticed much dust had accumulated inside. The CPU fan and heatsink were
covered. My question is: Can dust be filtered easily without disrupting
airflow? I thought about using cloth or cutting up a furnace filter to
cover the vents, but I'm afraid the fans won't have enough power to suck
air through. Has anyone tried this? Got any other ideas?
ANSWER: If this is a boxed part you can remove the fan by squeezing the plastic
part and then lifting it off. You can then clean it. Several vendors have filtration systems that would work but the problem
will not go away. My solution was to install a honeywell furnace system
that has electrostatic filters at the furnace. I had all the vents
washed out before this was installed and I have an airwash/humidifier
that is just before the filter. The air in the house is as clean as you get in hospitial operating
rooms. My alergies are better also. The system I got works but
cost about $3500 installed from my local heating and ac guy.
