QUESTION:Does anyone have experience with a hot water type of furnance? If so, how
quickly does it heat up vs a conventional gas furnace?
ANSWER: I have oil fired hot water heat-baseboards. During the heating season the
boiler maintains 190-160 degrees. When heat is needed, a pump, not
convection, moves hot water to the appropriate base board. It's as quick to
respond as any heat source.
My boiler also has a domestic hot water coil. Water heated by the boiler
then passes into an electric water heater to temper the the fluctuations in
temperature due to the boiler. I have no problems with hot water supply and
can shower and run the clothes washer at the same time.
