QUESTION:I am familiar with several different types of meditation, some of
which work better than others for different reasons. For example,
there is the standard 'block out external stuff and focus inward'
meditation. That just makes me dissy Then there is the harder to
do 'focus _outward_ on one specific sound, like the furnace turning
on and off' meditation that pulls me out of dissociation. My
favorite type is to focus on the space between breaths. It is the
most useful to me in all respects. I breath in with my nose and out
with my mouth and all I focus on is the pause that naturally happens
between in and out. If I do it right time stands still
ANSWER: the one that i do involves counting down.... you lay down and breathe
steadily (eyes closed), then picture, floating above you, a red number 7,
hold that for a few seconds, then let it drift away. next, an orange 6,
then a yellow 5, green 4, blue 3, lavender 2, then indigo 1. at that point,
you should feel kinda like you're floating. if not, count down from 10 to 1
in the same way, but with no colors.
after that, do whatever you want in your mind.
this DOES take a lot of practice. i've been doing it for......7 years now.
practice not to get bored or fall asleep or anything.
