QUESTION:You didn't say where you are... a couple of things to check... first... make
sure there are no birds nests in the vent pipe...second.. make sure you have
clean filters installed....third... check the yellow pages for a good
contractor to check out the furnace.
ANSWER: I have an Intertherm Nordyne G3RK Gas Draft Furnace.
It won't stay on. The Blocked Vent Switch likes to trip which causes
the burners to shut down, but the blower keeps running continuously and
cannot be shut off from the thermostat. When the Blocked Vent Switch
trips, the only way to shut off the blower is to reset the Blocked Vent
Switch by pressing its little red RESET button, or pulling the plug to
the furnace. Is anyone familiar with this model? Is this symptom more likely due to
a blocked exhaust vent, or a bad Blocked Vent Switch? I think the
switch is a thermal circuit breaker on the exhaust vent. Doesn't really
look like anything could get in the vent, but what's the easiest way to
check this? At what temperature is the switch supposed to trip? Also, when the furnace IS working, the air isn't very hot. Probably
just a little above luke-warm. At my parents house the air blew so hot
you couldn't touch the vents. Is this related? The burner IS firing.
