QUESTION:Guy calls me yesterday wanting to purchase a gas conversion kit for
his 18 yr old Janitrol furnace. It was converted to propane some time
ago and now, for whatever reason, he wants to convert it back to
natural gas. I needed to clarify with him as to whether he just wanted
to purchase the kit or he needed someone to put it in for him.
Suprise, Suprise..........this dolt wanted to do it himself.
I said, call Johnstone Supply and see if they can help you. I cant.
I asked him if he knew that he had to change the burner orifices and a
spring kit for the proper gas valve he currently has. He said his
father in law was a "valve guy" and he could do that. Then I asked him
if he knew he had to set the correct pressure. He said, "Oh yeah, I
can take care of that".
ANSWER: The way I look at that type of call, is allow him to do the job and when he
f**ks up the job, he will call you to repair. Now it would have been cheaper to hire you in the first place than to hire
you to fix his problems. We all have customers that have tried to repair their equipment and some
have completed their repair with no problems but there are a number who will
call you out and never again try to repair again.
