QUESTION:Anyone ever hear of a Scotch something or other boiler made by company named
Crown? Considering replacing unit and one vendor is recommending sticking
with oil heat and installing this boiler which he says is very good.
ANSWER: The term would be Scotch Marine. It is a firetube boiler with a round combustion chamber,
as compared to a square firebox (which is quite antiquated unless you are firing coal) As far as Crown, I have never heard of them, must be a regional company. Nationally know
brands are Cleaver-Brooks, Kewanee, Burnham, Hurst, and heavier duty Johnston and
Superior.
