QUESTION:My LP gas furnace has a burner problem with the first burner off the gas
manifold. When the furnace lights, this burner is igniting in the throat
for a few minutes. The other two burners downstream do not have this
problem. The burner flame is OK, (burns just like the other two) and the
air adjustment has no effect in forcing the flame down the burner
throat. After a few minutes the flame stops burning in the
throat and everything returns to normal. Has anyone else seen this
phenomenon and solved the problem?
ANSWER: One refernce book I have states that the most common cause of flashback
is a low pressure in the main gas supply line. Less common causes are
an obstructed or nicked burner orfice, and a damaged or obstructed main
burner.
