QUESTION:Defective manifold weldment on Miller (Nordyne) furnace.
Angle wrong- causing offset in flame on cone weldment-
causing burn-away of cone weldment (flame spreader)
support- which then causes ignitor to fail. Furnace- Miller CMF 80 PG DI N Purchased furnace 11/94
Above happened 11/96 and was taken care of by Nordyne. Happened again Winter 2000.
Nordyne refused to take care of it. Out of warranty. (ignitor and flame spreader went again) Yes, furnace was out of warranty but this was a factory
caused defect- and if it were not for a sharp gas company
technician- I would have never known. They tried to
get Nordyne or the distributer to look at the assembly and
offer some adjustment but it was denied. The gas company went as far as charging just their cost of
the assemenly- whole assembly was replaced. Yet, Nordyne
accepts no responsibility for a factory defect. Nordyne's "customer relations" rep was caustic- admitted
he knew nothing about the technical issues- would not
pass me on to someone who was knowledgeable. So, that was that. However, if you have a Miller mobile home
gas furnace that likes to eat ignitors, have the serviceman
check the gas feed tube ( manifold weldment) to see if
it's angle is right. If it's not hopefully you will have some
remaining warranty- otherwise Nordyne will NOT acknowledge a
defect.
ANSWER: Just a little "add-on" info. depending on the burner model, the
ends only are replaceable which saves "a lot" of $$$$$$ versus replacing
the whole assembly.
