Residential Furnace

QUESTION:

would like to know how to date a residential furnace

ANSWER:

Check the serial number. Usually the first two-four digits of the serial number indicate the year it was manufactured (0504 could be made in May of 2004). Or you can call the company who made it and ask them with your serial number to decipher the dates. Look for the manufacturers tag. It will usually have the serial and model number on it and may have the date made. Many installers also put a sticker on the unit for service work and it may have a date on it. My old "Pot-Belly" coal furnace hand a water jacket cover on the front of the furnace. Remove the cover and the Manufactorer, addresss, and date was right one it - it was part of the forging / molding process. It was forged right into the iron.
