QUESTION:In early December, at the recommendation of our heating contractor, we
had a Ruud induced-draft, natural gas, forced hot air furnace
installed in our ranch-style home that's built on a slab. The furnace
"closet" is in the center of the house in close proximity to the
living room and bedrooms. The Ruud furnace replaced a twenty-year old
Rheem gas furnace that was reasonably quiet. The new Ruud furnace is a HUGE noise problem! The induced draft
blower has an annoying whine that interferes with our sleep and
frightens our little granddaughter. The burners sound like a jet
afterburner. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll have to replace this
one-month old furnace if I'm ever going to get a good night's sleep
again. Question: Does anyone in this group know of a QUIET modern gas furnace
suitable for a slab-type home?
ANSWER: Inducer fan is high speed small fan and it runs so. On main blower,
you may be able to adjust speed' like lo, med. hi. See if this is the
case. How about sound proofing the furnace closet? I am afraid most
today's med-hi efficiency furnaces operate that way.
