QUESTION:That particular model of the Ruud can be very troublesome.
Their later models after 1996 were good though. It is very hard
to get the correct control board for those. I have internetted all
over the place to get one. Ruud does not keep those in stock after
about 7 years. The last one I got, was a spare in a retired Tech's
toolbox up in North Dakota. I might suggest that for your peace
of mind..... Get a new furnace. Most of the bugs have been worked
out of the newer ones. When your unit was installed, the Government
had mandated changes that were edgy at best and it took a few years
for the problems to appear and be cured.. You were lucky yours waited
this long. Make sure all the field changes have been made on your old
furnace. e.g. The flame sensor change out kit. and others. They did change
the boards to an updated one... You may have gotten an old style.Should you
take the high road and replace the furnace... You will find the top of the line
new Ruud a very fine unit. No I don't sell that brand. But at this time(year 2000)
there are no real lemon designs on any of the furnaces. Perhaps for the
Holidays you might hire a housesitter...(college person whatever).
Merry Christmas and a Warm New Years!!
ANSWER: 1) It's a UGEB, 2) It does not have the secondary flame sensor kit. 3) I was told this model had been on the market for a few years, at the time
I purchased it. 4) My Maintenance guys, the Moron Twins, are "the Installers". If there can
be said to be
such a thing. The Company that installed this, was a nice family owned
business, where the
owner ran installs and repairs, and his wife answered the phone. It grew
real large, and finally,
he sold out to the Gas Company, which as far as I can tell, is ruining the
company. 5) The second of the Moron Twins, stole all my parts, when he left, despite
my explicit
instructions to leave them all behind... I'm really tempted to sue these guys for cretinous degeneracy in a
residential zone. I know intermittent faults are horrendous to debug, but stupid ordering
practice, failure to
return phone calls, and stealing the parts after the repair, strikes me as
close to criminal.
