QUESTION:My apartment has a gas furnace and a wall mounted air conditioner in the
living room. The a/c keeps that room quite cool, but the cool does not
circulate to the rest of the apartment very well. The thermostat for the
furnace has a "fan-on" setting. I selected this and turned the
temperature setting down to 60 thinking that the fan (with no heat)
would run and perhaps circulate some of the cool air from the living
room into other rooms. There is an air intake vent for the furnace in
the living room. However, the fan does not even start. Is what I am
trying to do possible. It's a Rudd furnace if that makes any difference.
ANSWER: If the fan switch on the thermostat is hooked up, and there is power to the
furnace, the fan should start immediately when you turn it to fan on.
However, if there is no wire hooked up or relay for that, you will have to
use the switch that's probably on the furnace somewhere - probably labeled
Auto/Manual or Summer/Winter. It's probably a push-pull knob. Set it on
Manual or Summer and the fan should start.
