RV Furnace Expert Hanging Here?
QUESTION:I have this G%^#$ ^%$# furnace in a friend's RV. Standard no-name rv
furnace with electronic ignition, running off LP gas. The problem is
is that the combustion blower blows hard enough that all the propane
gets blown out the combustion exhaust, and the furnace won't light.
Restricting the combustion inlet somewhat (~50%) with a rag allows the
furnace to work fine, but this doesn't sit well with me. Some kind of snout or something has been busted off the combustion air
outlet. I wonder if this part restricted the airflow. It's just an
open outlet now.
ANSWER: Well- there really isn't such a thing as a standard no-name rv
furnace- they all have their own idiosyncrasies.
A few thoughts.. If it is a Coleman "Presidential" model, there is supposed to
be a restriction in the air inlet (the restriction is built in to the
exterior vent). If it is a DuoTherm 900 or 901 series, there is either a half
round ball or a plate that is adjustable in the air inlet which needs
to be properly adjusted- but these models need close inspection
anyway, as they tend to have serious defects (they are the reason
DuoTherm no longer makes RV furnaces). If it is a Suburban or Hydroflame, something else is wrong- it
could be improper supply voltage, an incorrect (or improperly
installed) combustion air blower, improper LP pressure, a clogged or
dirty burner, an incorrect orifice or several other things. We really need the make and model of the furnace.
