Upgrading RV Furnace? Hey, Chris Bryant!
QUESTION:An option might be a cat heater. The one we had on the old RV worked
very well. It was thermostatically controlled and run as needed, buy
didn't put the load on the battery that the "real' furnace does. It was
an Olympic 6100ET (the ET part means it's electronic, they also have
manual ones)
ANSWER: WOW, 500 bucks for that cat heater!!!! I was checking around and also found
a ducted furnaces at 40,000 BTU replacement for 600 that would fit right
in.. I haven't gone back into my RV to retrieve the manuals, but I believe
my current heater less than 20,000 BTU.. Still need to check out the other
possibilities that others have posted first though.. I like the two stage
that Chris mentioned but I have a Suburban "SF" series furnaces and I'm not
sure if an Atwood/hydroflame would fit easily (as a retrofit).. I believe
I'd at least need a new face plate as I think the hole is bigger for the
Suburban then it is for the Atwood so I may need to make a custom plate to
cover the existing outside plate/cover. Chris, if you're reading, have you
had experience replacing a Suburban with an Atwood Furnace?
