Two-Stage vs. Variable Speed Gas Furnace

QUESTION:

I am having a 24 year-old gas furnace replaced in my home and am considering units by Trane and American Standard. I have several questions, which are listed below, that I hope some of you can answer:
1. Is there a difference in quality between Trane and American Standard, given that Trane is owned by American Standard?
2. Each of the above manufacturers offers the following types of gas furnace models, which are rated at 80% efficiency:
a) Single-stage b) Two-stage c) Variable speed with two-stage gas valve
The two-stage model is about $200 more than the single-stage and the variable speed model is about $500 more than the two-stage model.
My question is what are the trade-offs between the three types of models listed above. For example, what advantages does the variable speed model offer over the two-stage model? Similarly, what advantages does the two-stage model offer over the single-stage model?

ANSWER:

two-stage and variable cost more , but will save you more in the long run . the parts cost more also but worth it in savings. i have always liked train , but dont know the differences in the two .
