QUESTION:After having spent almost $400/month during the colder months (North
Florida) for LP to heat my house I need to get a new furnace......but
what should I get.....my furnace is really old so I am inclined to say
that it probably isnt that efficient, but how much better would a new
one be.....should I simply get an electric furnace (heater)
instead.....the ducting seems OK, so are there any problems converting
the system?
ANSWER: I gather that natural gas isn't an option in your location. I'd think
that a new LP furnace would result in much cheaper monthly bills than
electric, but it all depends on what the rates for each are. Call a local
furnace contractor and they should be able to give you the comparisons
between home heating with each.
Golly, though, I don't know how big your home is and how well insulated
and wind-proofed--but $400 a month sounds terrible to me. A new efficient
furnace, whatever the cost, plus some added weatherproofing, should cut
your monthly costs a lot.
