Furnace repair parts needed

QUESTION:

I have a wall furnace, Williams Deponair, installed in 1978. I am trying to locate some replacement parts.
First is the gas valve, listed as Control Valve V5267 on the manual. This was replaced several years ago with a Robert Shaw 7000 SRLC, that also has the following numbers 739-351-003.
Second is the thermocouple, listed as Thermocouple I.T.T. - C.C. 2600G 18 Lg.
The last time the unit was serviced was due to the pilot light not able to stay lit. The local service guy didn't check anything but just replaced the gas valve and thermocouple. I really wondered at the time is both were bad or it was just a fast way to make a buck.
I would like to locate a replacement thermocouple to have on had before the cold sets in so if the problem happens again I can at least try to replace just that.
Any suggestions? Do gas valves really go bad? First was in for 15 years, next one installed 3 years later. Any idea how to find an exact replacement thermocouple? Can't find a listing for ITT thermocouples.

ANSWER:

Yes gas valves do go bad, although not too often. I would guess both were replaced because it has been proven cheaper for you than to replace one only to find out in a day or two the real cause was the other. The cost of the service call makes it cheaper often to replace parts than to chance coming back.
The thermocouple is almost certain to be standard. Take the part information and any measurements (photo?) to a heating parts store (even places like Lowes are likely to be able to handle this one) and see if they can ID it.
