Simalar Hot Water Furnace Problem?
QUESTION:Simalar Hot Water Furnace Problem? Installed new hot water furnace and circulating pump. Now can't get hot water to radiator on second floor of a two story house fom basement. Main floor is OK. Pressure about 2 PSI and water temp 190. Every thing is new, expansion tank and pressure adjusting valve included. Also the second floor is aprox.17 feet above furnace to radiator. Any suggestions?
ANSWER: The three possibilities that come to mind are A.) Underfilled sytem/Air lock. Open the air vent on the farthest radiator. Does air leak out? Does water?
Keep it open until water starts to come out. Being as this will occur after the system fills entirly it may take an hour or more and you should open the vents on the rest of the radiators to ensure they have enough fluid. B.) Undersized or improperly installed circulator pumps.
Circulators have a rated "Head" pressure which corolates to its ability to raise a column of water "X# of feet". A unit that is properly sized for a 1 story building with the exact heat load as yours may not have the head to lift you to the second story. C.) Faulty or underpressurized expansion tank. Expansion tanks come with a preset pressure (bladder Type ) from the factory. Sometimes there can be a leak at the bladder, the tank does not have the rated air pressure or some similar occurance will have it performing below par. All three of the above should be covered under the warranty given to you by the installer, and most would be willing to give it an eyeball just to insure that they are able to count on your good "Word of Mouth" advertising in the future.
