Furnace gas burner control

QUESTION:

I have a Williams Forsaire natural gas wall furnace which is about 30 years old. Can the burner control unit be rebuilt or cleaned out or is there a unit with which I can replace this one with? I called Williams and they just chuckled that I thought they might have any information on a unit that old. The burner control is a 24 volt Unitrol brand.

ANSWER:

here are several compact gas valves made that may work for your unit. You need to know the Btu input, pipe size in and out, is it straight through or side outlet for the manifold. With this information or the valve in hand someone like WW Grainger should be able to help you out. If you call someone to replace the valve you may save time (money) if you can give them this information. Little chance that cleaning and less rebuilding is a option.
