GAS furnace repair question
QUESTION:I have a York Diamond 90 gas fired hot air furnace installed. it suffered
some flood damage a couple of days ago. The water was about 2 feet high and
covered the control unit and the main electric blower located in the bottom
part of the furnace. Is it feasible to go about fixing
it or I just need to get a new one ? How could I find a York dealer in my area? York www site does not seem to
return
any dealers for my area. I also noticed that York advertises a $300 cash
back for it's
spring sale, any idea how take advantage of that ?
ANSWER: Do you have insurance? If so ask them to authorize repairs such that it can
be guaranteed 100% that any future breakdown is not water related and then
you pick servicers to get the estimates, not the insurance company. The
insurance company will authorize repairs but expect the servicer to provide
the warranty. Most servicers will probably then only recommend replacement
which will be covered by insurance. In any event the electrical components
may experience mineral deposit formation which will play hell with the flame
rectification circuits at some point as well as gum up contacts, etc.
Anything fibrous like insulation is now a breeding ground for fungi. I
guess the electrical could be rinsed where appropriate and sprayed with
pressure from a spray bottle into crevices with distilled water and then
dried with a warm air dryer. Insulation could be saturated with a solution
of bleach maybe if it were just the small section in some furnaces but it
should probably be replaced.
